Samuel Adams Barrel Room Collection

Posted by: Dave    in Beer News, Samuel Adams

Good news for this holiday season!

Sammy-A has announced the release of the newest additions to their family, the Samuel Adams Barrel Room Collection.

“We’re really excited about these three beers. They represent a long history of aging beer in wood barrels dating back to Samuel Adams Triple Bock. We continuously experiment with new styles and aging in wood, but until now these beers have been limited in their availability to a few beer festivals or the lucky visitors here to our Boston Brewery.”

Included in the collection are the following,

Samuel Adams New World Tripel

Pale gold in color, this ale is big, flavorful and complex. A special Belgian yeast strain adds tropical fruit and spice notes to the crisp dry ale, while Saaz hops add a subtle herbal note. (~10% ABV)

American Kriek

The intense black cherry character in this beer comes from Balaton cherries, which were discovered in Hungary and are now grown in Michigan. These special cherries are prized for their depth of flavor. The tartness from the cherries is balanced by a rich, malty character with toasted oak notes added from the barrel aging. (~7% ABV)

Stony Brook Red

This unique brew defies traditional beer style definition. The rich, malty brew combines notes of tart fruit from the yeast with a toasty oak character from the barrel aging. The long dry finish is almost wine-like. This is a beer that is satisfying on its own and also pairs well with many foods such as braised or roasted meats, beef stews and strong salty cheeses. (~9% ABV)

The Barrel Room Collection is available in a 750ml bottle and finished with a champagne cork.

Samuel Adams New World Tripel and Samuel Adams Stony Brook Red have been bottle conditioned, a process which creates an extra smooth and balanced flavor in the beer.

The Samuel Adams American Kriek is left uninterrupted to maintain the rich cherry flavor from the Balaton cherries used in the brewing process. For an optimum drinking experience, we recommend serving each brew in a traditional Tulip-style beer glass to best capture the beers aromas.

The Samuel Adams Barrel Room Collection beers are available for purchase at the Samuel Adams Boston Brewery and will be available at select retail locations in Massachusetts, Denver, Colorado, Maine and New Hampshire for a suggested retail price of $9.99 per 750ml bottle in the near future.

The Meeting…

Posted by: Dave    in Three Fellas

Whilst Hank was dwelling on the carbon dioxide bubbles floating in his beer, he heard a loud BANG followed by a gust of cool night air. As he turned to see what caused the disturbance, a large barrel of a man shouldered through the crowd and rudely knocked Hank from his stool. In his haste to keep himself upright, he dropped the bag of frozen peas which upon hitting the floor burst open sending peas scattering everywhere. Unable to stay upright Hank falls and smacks his head on the corner of the bar.

At the same moment all of this is going on, Luke was standing up to go make water in the outhouse. As he stood, his feet slipped on the scattered peas, sending him sprawling backwards away from the bar. As Luke was scrambling for purchase he knocked the box out from under Dave’s feet mere moments before knocking his head on a chair.

Dave, who was leaning back in his chair, with his feet resting on the box from the apothecary, watched all this transpire with some amusement until the box was knocked out from under his feet, scattering the contents, causing him to tumble backwards out of his chair, beer sailing through the air as his head connected solidly with the floor.

As our three heroes lay sprawled on the floor, unconscious, they each had the same vision.. At first, there was a bright warm light, that flashed an image of a beautiful golden field of grain swaying in a lazy breeze. From this field walks the most amazingly beautiful woman any has ever laid eyes on, for she is none other than Latis, the Celtic goddess of ale and mead. As she stands there, her melodic voice fills their heads saying “You three are destined to bring great joy to this dismal land. The journey shall be full of hardships and obstacles, but one day, you shall craft the greatest brews this land has ever tasted! Kings and common folks alike shall toast one another in memory of the great things you three will create!” As the vision started to fade, the goddess said “these things shall come to pass, but for now you must wake up.”

“Wake up, WAKE UP” the bartender shouted from behind the bar, “I’ll not have louts like you sleeping on my floor without paying for the space!” As the three were roughly brought back into the world of the conscious, they each sat up and stared at one another, confusion apparent on their faces….
